FAMILY DENTAL CARE
Offering Specialty and Preventative Care
(including xrays)
At the new patient exam and at routine exams, we will conduct a through examination of the entire oral cavity and take digital xrays when necessary. This allows us to gather all information needed to provide a thorough recommendation for further treatment.
Dental sealants are protective coverings that are placed on the biting surfaces of teeth. Sealants are usually recommended for children after their 6 and 12 year molars erupt to help them prevent cavities in these teeth. When fluoride is applied, it becomes part of the crystalline structure of tooth enamel, hardening it and making it more resistant to acid attack and decay. Fluoride can even help repair small cavities that are already forming.
Our normal daily activities of eating, drinking and talking all contribute to the buildup of plaque on our teeth. Routine dental cleanings to remove plaque and tartar are important to help prevent tooth decay, tooth loss and gum disease.
(Tooth-colored Fillings)
Specially formulated tooth colored fillings restore wholeness to a tooth affected by minimal decay. Treating a “cavity” means cleaning out the decay and then filling the area with a tooth-colored material.
Crowns are caps placed over the exterior of a tooth with moderate to extensive decay to restore shape, strength and appearance. Bridges are crowns that “bridge” or fill in the gap between teeth. Bridges are cemented into place and are permanent.
When teeth cannot be saved due to gross decay or periodontal disease is known as (gum disease) your dentist may recommend immediate dentures. Dentures are removable appliances which replace all of the teeth (complete dentures) or replace partially missing teeth (partial dentures).
Root canals clean out diseased or dead nerves in the innermost layer of a tooth. When the nerve is damaged, surrounding tissue is also damaged. If not treated, the tooth could become infected and painful and need to be removed. Teeth that have had a root canal will be restored with a crown.
Sometimes teeth have no hope for survival in a patient’s mouth. If an extensive cavity or fatal fracture deem a tooth non-restorable, and extraction may be recommended. At the time a tooth is planned for extraction, options for replacement will also be discussed.
Over time teeth can grow dull and discolored for a number of reasons. We can brighten them up with custom fitted whitening trays and prescription strength whitening gel.
We love seeing patients for their first visits. We are well versed in treating young children and will answer any questions parents have about their children’s growing mouth.
We are always available for unforeseen tooth issues and will work hard to see you quickly.
Implants are a permanent method for restoring missing teeth. Implants are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the roots of a tooth. Once in place, implants anchor a crown, bridge or dentures.
This refers to the use of pharmacological agents to calm and relax a patient prior to and during a dental appointment. We offer oral sedation and nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
(Deep Cleaning)
In a case of periodontal disease, scaling and root planing, also known as a deep cleaning, will be required. We use our ultrasonic cleaner to get below the gum tissue and remove all plaque and calculus to prevent oral diseases these bacteria cause.
